Lemoore’s Michael Burke is setting new standards for himself in track and field. The talented senior high jumper leapt to a new school record of 7-0 at Saturday’s Golden West Invitational held Saturday in Visalia. Burke, thanks to his record-shattering performance, also has the state’s best high jump in 2015 and is considered the favorite to win the state title.

According to Tiger Coach Kelly Brown, Burke says he plans to go even higher. “In our team meeting today Michael stated he wants to get 7-4,” said Brown. “To me that sounds like a man on a mission. He is successful athletically as well as in the classroom.”

According to Brown, Burke is headed for UCLA and plans to compete in track and field for the Bruins. Burke’s father is his high jump coach and keeps him on track with his training schedule.

Relays. His 7-0 high jump obviously is the best in the state and was the 10th best high jump all time in the Central Section. Burke happened to break his own school record of 6-10. Burke also won the long jump Saturday afternoon with a leap of 21-4 ¼ and finished second in the triple jump.
