He also, while in high school, worked at The Lemoore Advance and The Lemoore Leader.
He was also managing editor of the Tulare Advance-Register and an editor at McClatchy’s South Valley Bee Bureau as well as a news editor at the Visalia Times-Delta. He was named managing editor of the Tulare Advance-Register after Gannett purchased the paper in 1993.
He left The Advance-Register in 1995 for an editor job at a Gannett paper in Connecticut. He soon returned to Tulare County, though, to help launch the South Valley Bee for McClatchy in the late 1990s.
He also ran a Tulare-based travel agency and public relations company after leaving the newspaper business and also worked at the Vintage Press Restaurant Group, leading public relations and special events at the group’s three restaurants.
Griffiths often contributed story ideas to The Leader and had been involved in local events such as the Lemoore Chamber’s Friday Night Under the Arbor.
He is survived by his father Fred, brothers Don and James and sister Susan Kay Brown.
