“I think it’s important to bring resources like this out to the west side that are free and affordable,” said Mali Flood, a financial aid coordinator at NDC who has helped to coordinate the event alongside NDC Director Bertha Felix-Mata.
The DACA program grants temporary relief from deportation and benefits including a social security number, a work permit and potential eligibility for healthcare coverage. San Joaquin College of Law, the Mexican Consulate, West Hills College and Insure America Project attorneys and staff will be on hand to provide information and assist with applications.
Clinica Sierra Vista will also be providing enrollment services for Medi-Cal and Covered California Health Insurance based on upcoming changes to Medi-Cal. In May 2016, the State of California will be expanding the Medi-Cal program to include undocumented children under the age of 19, if the family meets income requirements. Currently, these children are only eligible for restricted-scope or emergency Medi-Cal. Parents may enroll their children now under the existing program and be automatically transitioned to full scope Medi-Cal when the program is expanded in May.
