On September 1, at about 11:20 p.m., Lemoore police officers were dispatched to West D Street for a report that someone had been shot in the leg. Officers contacted a male in his twenties, who said he was walking away from an ATM when a male, 19-year-old suspect Dakota Sherwood, approached him and asked for a dollar.

The victim told the suspect, Sherwood that he did not, and then the two exchanged words. Two other males then joined Sherwood. The victim said that all three subjects then pulled out knives and threatened him, swinging their knives at him. The victim ran into an apartment building retrieved his cell phone and then walked outside.

He said that Sherwood was standing in front of the building with the knife in his hand. He yelled at Sherwood, asking him why he pulled a knife on him. Sherwood then ran across the street and the victim followed him. While he was following Sherwood, the victim felt his leg get hit several times, and he thought he may have been shot.

The victim ran back towards his residence and told his neighbor to call the police. Officers checked the victim for injuries and noticed several red marks on his leg, which were possibly caused by a bb or pellet gun.

Sherwood was identified by police as the suspect with the knife. He was contacted and told officers that he was in the area when someone tried to hit him with a bat. He denied having a knife or approaching anyone.

Sherwood was arrested and booked at the Kings County Jail, while the 16-year-old was also contacted, identified by witnesses as the suspect who had the gun. He was arrested as well.
