“When I was a little girl, I was always pretending that my Barbies were pregnant,” says Tamara Sharma, a new certified nurse midwife at Adventist Health / Community Care – Hanford Residency and Healthy Beginnings.

Sharma, who grew up in Cresco, Iowa, loves caring for women from the beginning of pregnancy to delivery.

“I just have the need to take care of people,” she says.

Sharma has a dual master’s as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and certified nurse midwife from University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She has eight years of experience as a midwife in both a hospital and clinical setting. Most recently, she was at White Memorial in Los Angeles.

Sharma will work under the supervision of Dr. Richard Ellsworth and take calls at the Family Birth Center in Hanford.

When she’s not caring for patients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, ages 2 and 6.
