The Tigers have won the last 20 of 22 league championships. They surrendered the crown last year when the Rangers defeated Lemoore in the league championships, amassing enough points in league matches and the WYL tournament to oust the Tigers from the top spot for only the second time in 22 years.
The same team that edged Lemoore almost year ago, didn’t stand a chance Wednesday as the Tigers posted the highly unusual shutout.
The junior varsity also blanked the Rangers, winning 84-0. The Lemoore girls, competing in their first WYL dual match, edged the Rangers 34-32.
“Our wrestlers did well,” said Tiger Coach Marcio Botelho. “It’s tough to shut out a team, but we were able to shut down the Rangers. I think it shows that we’re heading in the right direction.”
