He retired in August 1987, and was proud to have been the Navy’s first Hispanic Master Chief. Upon his retirement from active duty, he worked for the Hanford School District for five years. Both he and his wife actively served their parish for many years.
Ernesto was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was always very proud of his family and is survived by his daughter Lola Vigil Spain, and four sons: Raymond (Pamla) Vigil, Ernie (Randy) Vigil, Paul (Betty) Vigil, and Jim (Robyn) Vigil. He also had seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Phipps-Dale Funeral Chapel in Lemoore. A Vigil Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 7th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
