The swimmers, on Thursday (April 21) again proved their mettle as Lemoore’s varsity boys crushed Golden West’s boys’ team 102-67. The girls’ team, unfortunately fell 101-65 to the Trailblazers.
The West Yosemite League championships will be hosted by Hanford High School but will be in Lemoore’s pool on May 4 and 5.
“We have a few standout swimmers this year,” said Tiger Coach Jeff Kuykendall. “Juniors Cameron Olson and Chris Bonham have been doing great. Chris won the 200 (1:55.43) and 500 (5:13.18) freestyle events and Cameron won the 100-freestyle (50.60),” said Kuykendall.
Other big winners included Sophomore Riley Gibson won the 100-breaststroke (31.37) with senior Trey Pietch finishing second. Senor Calvin Rhoads won the 100-fly in 59.54.
The team of Gibson, Olson, Bonham and Rhoades also easily won the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:.90. According to Kuykendall, the team has yet to lose an event this year.
On the girls’ side Katelyn Pedersen was a double winner, taking top honors in the 200-individual medley (2:27.71), and the 100-breastroke in 1:18.58. Megan Pedro won the grueling 500-yard freestyle in 6:16.09.
In other team action the junior varsity boys defeated Golden West 84-14 and the JV girls dropped a 78-69 decision.
