Lemoore’s boys improved to 1-0 in the WYL and are now 9-4 overall, while the ladies fell to 0-1 and 7-7. The boys are leaving the WYL for a game Saturday night at Sanger High School where they will take on Monache High School in a non-conference tourney game.
The Lemoore girls hit the road again with a WYL game at El Diamante High on Jan. 9. The boys are home on Wednesday night against the Miners. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
Against the Rangers, Lemoore’s boys put together a strong run in the second quarter, outscoring the Rangers 22-8 to erase a first-quarter 12-11 deficit. The Tigers held on in the second half edging Redwood 36-35.
The Lady Tigers fell behind early to the Rangers 15-5 in the first quarter and felt the brunt of a powerful offense when Redwood outscored Lemoore 27-8 in the second quarter to take a commanding 42-13 lead at the half.
The Lady Rangers also dominated on the soccer field, besting Lemoore’s girls in Tiger Stadium 9-1 in their WYL opener Thursday night. Lemoore’s ladies fell to 3-4-1 on the year while the perennial WYL leaders, the Rangers, improved to 10-5-2 on the year.
However, Lemoore’s varsity soccer team scored a second-half goal to defeat Redwood in its league opener 1-0. The Tigers improved to 7-3-2 on the season and are now 1-0 in league play.
In Kings Christian action, the Crusader boys will host Farmersville in the Crusader gym on Friday, Jan. 4 and will remain home for a Jan. 9 Wednesday contest against Wonderful College Prep Academy. On Friday, Jan. 11 the Crusaders will make a short drive to Laton High School to take on their rivals.
The Kings Christian girls, at 2-3 on the season, have a game tonight (Jan. 4) against Farmersville at home.
