Lemoore’s varsity boys’ tennis team, West Yosemite League third-place finishers, will be going to tomorrow’s (April 11) league championships in Visalia on a high note. The Tigers crushed visiting Hanford Tuesday afternoon 9-0 to capture the league’s third-place spot.

The Tigers finished the league campaign at 6-4, behind perennial champs Redwood (10-0) and second place Mt. Whitney’s 8-2 second place finish. Redwood High School will host this year's championships.

From top to bottom, Lemoore’s singles and team players crushed the Bullpups. Only Tiger Marjaby Bresenio had the afternoon’s closest match, but he still managed to defeat Hanford’s Abraham Alatorre 6-4, 6-1.

It was No. 1 singles player Luis Renteria that began the onslaught, delivering a 6-1, 6-1 pasting of the Bullpups’ Jeremiah Manguia on Tuesday.

“The Hanford match was a great way to end league with a 9-0 win and some crazy wind thrown in to make it interesting,” said the Tigers coach, Carla Bow.  “The boys executed what they had been working on in practice, and I feel we are well prepared  for WYL and the playoffs.”

Bow added that the Tigers number one player, Renteria, earned the league’s No. 2 seed in singles while the rest of the Tigers went into the draw. “I think they all should qualify for Area if they continue to play at the level they are at right now.”

Mathew Ramirez turned in another solid performance with his opponent, winning 6-1, 6-0 while Jonathan Santiago, at No. 4 singles, won 6-0, 6-1. Pete Hawken and Chris Beltran also won their singles matches by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores.

In doubles action Hawken and Ramirez team up for an 8-2 victory while Jalen Chavez and Nick Ibarra blanked Hanford 8-0. Finally, Blake Nunes and Chase Garcia completed the shutout with an 8-2 win.
