The Community Mural Project, “The Fabric of Our Heritage,” is now in its final phase, with completion just a few weeks away. Community members still have an opportunity to add a few brushstrokes to the canvas inside the Lemoore High School Art Building between 3:15 and 5 p.m. on Monday – Thursday afternoons.

Mario Gonzalez, a popular and talented Lemoore High School art teacher, is supervising the painting.

Lemoore's Sarah A. Mooney Museum is sponsoring the community-wide mural project. The local museum earned a grant from California Humanities in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The “Humanities for All” is a grant program that supports locally-initiated public humanities projects that respond to the needs and interests of Californians, encourages greater public participation in humanities programming (particularly by new and/or underserved audiences), and promotes understanding and empathy among all our state’s peoples in order to cultivate a thriving democracy.

“The Fabric of Our Heritage” is a mural project that has brought many residents of the community together in the planning and painting.  The mural contains symbols within a hexagonal quilt pattern that represent the diversity of our local ethnic groups.

The public is invited to attend a mural dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m. on the property between 142 and 162  West D Street.  The ceremony will feature multi-cultural entertainment by various youth groups within the Lemoore area.
