Lemoore’s surprising football season came to an end Friday night in Bakersfield when the Tigers, riding fairly high after a somewhat successful West Yosemite League campaign and a satisfying first-round playoff victory over West High School a week ago, ran up against a powerful Bakersfield Christian High School that handed the Tigers a disappointing 49-7 loss in the Division 3 second-round playoff game.

The Eagles, playing before their home crowd, took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to three touchdowns from David Stevenson. Bakersfield Christian outscored the Tigers 28-0 in the second half.

Bakersfield Christian will host No. 3 seed San Luis Obispo Friday night in the Division 3 semifinals. The Tigers go into Friday’s game sporting a 10-1 mark and come off a 49-28 win over Madera High School Friday night. The Eagles are 8-3 after Friday’s victory over Lemoore.

Lemoore’s only score came on a first-half touchdown pass to tight end Will Schalde at the back of the end zone.

The game was marred by a fight that resulted in several disqualifications on both sides of the line, including a pair of Tigers.

Lemoore was also hampered by the absence of its quarterback, Justin Holaday, out with a hip injury. Holaday, playing in tandem with a Tiger backfield that included William Kloster and a talented receiving corps of Schalde and Chris Taylor, rebounded from a disappointing pre-season to come within seven points of winning a WYL championship.

Lemoore lost to an unbeaten Hanford team 43-36 in the league finale. The Tigers finished 5-7 overall and were 3-2 in the WYL.
