In the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 26, at about 4:40 a.m., the Kings County Sheriff's Office received a dispatch call regarding a theft in progress at a hemp field near the Avenal Cut Off and Orange Avenue.

Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect vehicle leaving the scene and initiated a traffic stop. 

The vehicle, a 2000 Jaguar, had been reported stolen in Chowchilla.  Deputies detained the car’s three occupants, including the driver and suspect, New Kee Xiong, and the two passengers suspects Nancy Xiong and Peter Vang.

During a search of the vehicle, a Hi-Point 9 MM handgun was located.  Deputies also learned that New Xiong had several prior felony convictions, including vehicle theft and possession of a firearm. Deputies arrested New Xiong on suspicion of weapons offenses, possession of a stolen vehicle, and forgery. Suspect Peter Vang was arrested for a weapon offense as well.

The suspects left a 14-year-old female at the scene, and she was later returned to her family.
