On March 2, Hanford’s Myers Well Drilling employees were getting ready for the day’s work and were warming up their equipment for the day when a man, driving a 2015 Mack dump truck, pulled inside the business shop. Kings County deputies responded to the business, located on 2nd Avenue, to find a suspect, Luis Monroy, who drove the truck into the shop.

The employees noticed that the suspect, Monroy, may have been acting strangely, so they backed away from the truck. From an address on the truck’s door, employees called the owner, and he advised them the truck was stolen in Fresno on Friday, February 28.

The employees then called the Kings County Sheriff’s Department.

Upon arrival, deputies placed the suspect, Monroy, in custody.  On further investigation, the deputies discovered drug paraphernalia and determined that the suspect was likely under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to the law enforcement officers, Monroy told deputies that someone gave him the truck for free, and he drove the truck into the shop because he saw other trucks inside.  Deputies determined the owner of the dump truck had left a key in a hidden box underneath the truck, leading to its theft.

The sheriff’s officers booked Monroy booked into the Kings County Sheriff’s Office for possession of a stolen vehicle, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The California Highway Patrol assisted in the recovery of the stolen dump truck.  The dump truck was valued at more than $100,000.

The suspect, Monroy, is currently being held in the Kings County Jail on $50,000 bail.
