The three-month totals are usually reported quarterly in Federal Election Commission campaign reports and, as of April 14, have not been reported yet online.
Cox hasn’t announced his total first-quarter fundraising total, but in an FEC pre-election report, Cox officially raised $126,733.07 from January 1, 2020, through February 12, 2020. During the same period, Valadao brought in $184,672.28 in contributions during the pre-election period.
In 2019, Cox raised roughly $1.7 million and spent a little over $1 million to end 2019 with about $887,000 in cash on hand going into the new year. Valadao, according to FEC fundraising reports, ended up with 1,015,928.10 cash on hand at the end of 2019.
Both candidates appear to have a solid base of support as they head into the November general election. Valadao served three terms in Congress before losing to Cox in 2018 by about 5,000 votes in District 21, which stretches from Kings County to Bakersfield.
Both candidates appear that they will have plenty of cash in which to mount a comprehensive campaign during what promises to be an unusual year, an era that will no doubt be defined as extraordinary thanks to the COVID-10 Pandemic.
“I was incredibly honored by the outpouring of support from voters all across the district who stepped up to help my camp0aign with their vote, time, and financial support,” said Valadao in a press release to The Leader.
