The victim, a resident of the house, was struck by the suspect’s car and pinned between the car and debris inside the home.
Additional Lemoore police officers and Lemoore firefighters responded quickly to the scene to free the victim. The male was transported to Hanford’s Adventist Medical Center, where he later died.
The suspect, Cabuenas Jr., ran from police officers, but after a short chase, he fell to the ground. As Lemoore officers attempted to arrest him, the suspect pointed a loaded gun at one police officer. Police quickly took Cabuenas into custody without further incident.
Initially, Cabuenas gave the police a false name, but the 19-year-old suspect was eventually identified. An investigation determined that Cabuenas was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Police booked Cabuenas into the Kings County Jail and charged him with several charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of drugs, causing bodily injury, and hit-and-run driving.
Police also charged the suspect with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, carrying a concealed weapon on his person, carrying a loaded firearm in public, assault with a firearm, altering a serial number on a firearm, giving a false name to police, and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $305,000 bail.
