Unfortunately, KCDPH also reported an additional 23 COVID-19 related deaths between December 5, 2020, through January 5, 2021. The increase in total deaths does not correlate with the daily positive case increase reported on the same day. Most Counties within California have experienced data reporting issues and delays with the State’s disease registry system, CalREDIE. The KCDPH Epidemiological team continues to work with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to resolve these issues.
“This sharp increase in new cases is a reminder of how easily this virus is transmitted and how important it is to protect yourself and loved ones,” said KCDPH Director Edward Hill. KCDPH continues to encourage the community to follow best practices known to limit the spread of COVID-19. The following actions can prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Kings County and help protect residents from respiratory illnesses:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unclean hands.
- Avoid gatherings.
- Wear a facemask or covering when visiting with people outside of your household.
- Practice physical distancing of at least six feet.
- Getting tested for COVID-19 regularly.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- Cover your cough, or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
