Friday night’s 14-13 final came in overtime as the Tigers scored a touchdown and extra point while Sanger missed a two-point conversion that would have secured a Sanger win.
Porterville is 2-1 as they await their trip to Lemoore. Their last game was against Lemoore’s nemesis on the field, Hanford. The Bullpups outscored the Panthers 27-0.
The Tigers also kick-off West Yosemite League play on Friday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Redwood High School. Lemoore’s first WYL home game will be on Friday, Oct. 8, against El Diamante.
Trailing 7-0 early in the third period against visiting Sanger, the Tigers finally struck back early in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Ty Chambers to Corey Whitmore, deadlocking the game and eventually forcing the two teams into overtime.
In the overtime period running back A. Hughes Moench scored to hand his team a 14-7 lead.
Sanger then took over and scored from just one yard out, but in an attempt to end the game with a win, the Apaches went for two points and fell short.
