The Miners are 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the WYL as they prepare to face Tuman's tough Tiger team. El Diamante's WYL opener against Hanford was not pretty as the Bullpups ran up the score on the Miners and won 59-32.
Against the Rangers, Lemoore didn't exactly have it easy. After spotting the Rangers a 14-7 lead at halftime, the Tigers turned things around with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Redwood's first of two TDs came in the second quarter when Ranger quarterback Francisco Alvarez connected with Kolby Howard for a 16-yard touchdown.
Lemoore tied the game with about three minutes left in the half when Andrew Moench scored on a one-yard rushing TD.
Redwood's Alvarez connected again with Howard for 31 yards to give the Rangers a 14-7 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, it took about five minutes for the Tigers to tie the game at 14 when defensive standout Demel Turner picked off a Ranger pass and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown. Gustavo Rea-Huizar’s PAT tied the game at 14.
With about a minute in the third, Tiger quarterback Ty Chambers completed an 83-yard pass to Cory Whitmore for the touchdown and the lead at 21-14.
The Tigers' defense managed to keep the lid on Redwood's offense and improved their overall record to 5-1 as they continue their season Friday.
Chambers completed 10 of 18 passes for 142 yards while Moench led the Tigers with 89 total yards and the one touchdown. Whitmore led the Tigers in receiving with 99 yards and the one touchdown.
On the defensive side of the line, senior D'Marcus Watson clearly stood out with his 11 tackles, six of them solo tackles.
