The Kings County Board of Supervisors, this week, took advantage of the annual observance of National Women’s History Week and authorized a resolution honoring notable local women leaders, including recognizing several local women.

The annual observance of National Women’s History Week was declared in a Presidential Proclamation by President Carter in 1980 and was declared National Women’s History Month by Congress in 1987.

This year Kings County staff requested each county department head to nominate someone from their department to receive the recognition. In addition, each of the county’s board members on the Kings County Board of Supervisors selected a recipient for recognition.

The annual observance of National Women’s History Week was declared in a Presidential Proclamation by President Carter in 1980 and was declared National Women’s History Month by Congress in 1987.  This was done to provide an opportunity for all Americans to recognize the contributions women have made to this nation, and to honor those who blazed trails for women’s empowerment and equality.
