A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at South Valley Community Church for Julie Louise Cornell Powell, who passed away on Monday, June 25.

Julie was born in L.A. County, CA, on September 14, 1944, to Benjamin and Madeleine. An only child, Julie was surrounded by a small family, including the presence of her maternal grandparents, with whom she was fortunate to spend most of her childhood.

The love for family was rooted in Julie from an early age. A daughter of French Catholics, Julie attended Catholic school until she graduated from high school.

Julie met a young U.S. Marine, Virgil, in 1964 in Tustin, CA.  On January 2, 1965, they were married in Las Vegas. In December of 1966, Julie and Virgil welcomed their oldest, Jerre, followed by James and Christine a few years later in March 1970.

The family lived in Irvine, CA, Beaufort, SC, and Yuma, AZ, before settling in Lemoore, CA. It is in Lemoore that Julie spent many years working at Lemoore High School and volunteering.

Married for 57 years, Virgil was the love of her life. They enjoyed traveling together, playing Mexican train with dear friends, and spending time with their family. Julie left behind many who loved her, including her children and grandchildren, Hannah (& Nathan), David, Jonathan, Danyel, Rachel, and Benjamin, and many others she loved deeply.

In memory of Julie, donations may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at www.nmers.org, 559-998-4045, or to Lemoore Christian Aid, located at 224 N. Lemoore Ave. Lemoore, CA.

Mom and Nana, we will miss you greatly!
