The deputy contacted the driver, Carlos Carbajal Hernandez, 38, his two-year-old child, and one adult passenger, Leovardo Alcaraz, 36.

The deputy noticed the two-year-old asleep in the back seat, and the infant was not wearing a seat belt. A records check was completed on both adults, and law enforcement discovered that  Alcaraz was on Kings County Probation for domestic violence, making him searchable by any peace officer.

Kings County K-9, Miko, was on the scene, and he is trained in the detection of illegal narcotics. Miko walked around the car and detected the odor of illegal narcotics coming from inside the car.

During a search of the Nissan, deputies located three Ziploc bags with a white crystal substance on the front passenger floorboard. As the search continued, deputies also located six additional Ziploc bags containing a crystal substance on the rear driver-side floorboard. Deputies said the bags in the rear portion of the Nissan were within the reach of a two-year-old child.

The crystal substance tested positive for Methamphetamine and weighed a total of 9 pounds, stated deputies. 

Deputies placed Hernandez and Alcaraz under arrest and were placed into custody. Kings County Child Protective Services took custody of the two-year-old child.

Deputies booked Hernandez into the Kings County Jail on the charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, and child abuse. His bail was set at $400,000.

Deputies also booked Alcaraz into Kings County Jail on the charges of possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $150,000.
