What? Another pizza place in Lemoore? According to Google, there are currently five pizza joints selling a variety of pizza pies in Lemoore. However, No. 6, Roundtable Pizza, which recently opened its doors at the Save Mart Plaza, is the town’s latest entry into the world of pizza.

And it’s pretty good if I say so myself because, in the interest of science, I conducted a taste test.

While waiting for the company’s regional manager, Greg Barton, on a hot Thursday afternoon, it turned out Barton was late. I offered to postpone the interview until the next day. While there, I reasoned that I may as well try out the merchandise and ordered a medium pizza (I can’t remember its ingredients), took it home, and promptly devoured nearly the entire pie.

One small slice waits patiently in my refrigerator, waiting for my hunger to kick in.

Indeed, Lemoore’s newest addition to Lemoore’s pizza wars is an impressive venue. It’s well lit, easy to order, has an impressive salad bar that awaits customers, and above all, the pizza is pretty darn good.

I returned the next day (Friday) to interview Barton, a wiry man who has lived in the pizza business for 45 years He’s been with Round Table Pizza for the last six years as the regional manager. “I work for a franchisee,” he said, adding that he has 22 Valley stores under his wing.

At one point in his long career, he was a vice president with Chuckie Cheese Pizza. He also owned restaurants in Las Vegas before relocating to the Valley. He currently manages 17 pizza restaurants in the Valley.

“All of our stores have been successful,” he told me in the comfortable Round Table dining room where one can order a pizza or salad and eat in comfort. “It’s been busting at the seams. We’ve been well received.”

The local restaurant celebrated opening day on Aug. 10.

Like most business owners, Barton is quick to boast … and it may not be mere boasting. “We sell on quality. We don’t take any shortcuts,” explaining that all the store’s ingredients are fresh every day. “Our cheese is never frozen, and our salad bar is fresh. We take a lot of pride in our quality,” he boasted.

Barton told The Leader that Round Table likes to focus on families and groups. “We like to think that we create memories. We’re just excited to be here.”
