Tiger football team, 78-6 winner in opener, takes on 61-0 winner Washington Union in second week of high school football

Lemoore High School’s varsity football team is off to a solid start – an understatement, really – as a potent Lemoore squad overwhelmed a Selma Bearcat squad 78-6 Friday night in Selma to capture its first win of the season.

Friday night’s overwhelming win happened to be the first game of the season for the scrappy Tiger squad, once again coached by Rich Tuman.

Lemoore hits the road again Friday night, tackling host Washington Union, a regular on the Tigers’ schedule over the years and a  61-0 victor over Fresno High School last Friday (Aug. 19).

It should be an exciting match. Lemoore and Washington Union combined last week for 139 points while allowing their opponent just six points.

Lemoore quarterback Ty Chambers was impressive in his return as the quarterback, going six for nine in the game with a pair of touchdowns.

On the ground, Spencer Silva rushed for 102 yards on just six carries and a touchdown, and receiver Preston Scott turned in an impressive start, returning three punts and a kickoff return for touchdowns to lead the Tigers to their first win of the season.
