Salas was joined by KCFD Fire Chief William Lynch, local firefighters, and community members to celebrate the historic investment in local public safety. 

"I am thrilled to secure $5.5 million in state funding for Kings County Fire Department to continue their service of excellence, increase public safety, and better prepare for future emergencies by purchasing new fire trucks and upgrading life-saving firefighting equipment,” said Assemblymember Salas.

“This year's historic state budget brings $237 million in new investments to the Central Valley that will transform local economies, increase public safety, and improve the lives of so many.” 

KCFD protects approximately 1,392 square miles through a combination of 10 stations and one headquarters with 88 full-time employees. The department focuses primarily on serving the rural areas of Kings County and helps provide services to the cities of Avenal and Corcoran. KCFD responds to over 5,100 calls annually, including structure, vehicle, wildland, and grass fires. They also render medical aid and react to hazardous materials incidents and public assistance calls. 

“The Kings County Fire Department is extremely grateful to Assemblyman Rudy Salas for his assistance with this important funding opportunity that will support the updating of the department's apparatus, facilities, and equipment,” said Kings County Fire Chief William Lynch. “Additionally, it will improve and support the rapid and efficient response to emergencies in both the County and its Cities.” 

This new funding will support the purchase of new fire engines, as well as new equipment and updating fire facilities to serve the residents of Kings County better. This will improve response times to emergency incidents, provide firefighters with life-saving equipment, and allow for more on-the-job training. This investment in local public safety will further KCFD’s mission to provide quality fire, rescue, and emergency medical services with compassion and a commitment to excellence.
