In June, Liberty Middle School and the Lemoore Union Elementary School District educators traveled to Washington, D.C., where they attended the 2022 Schools to Watch Conference, sponsored by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. The National Forum uses the following categories when designating a middle school as high performing: academically excellent, developmentally responsive, and socially equitable.
At the conference, Liberty Middle School was redesignated as a 2021 National School to Watch.
In March, school officials learned that Liberty Middle School was also recognized as a 2021 California State School to Watch.
School administrators, teachers, and students were proud the first time around and were again buoyed by this year’s designations.
Liberty Middle School educators spent their time in D.C. learning from other high-performing middle school teams. Liberty Middle School presented to other educators from around the country about the “Liberty Way,” which includes the “3C’s”: Culture, Collaboration, and Coaching, and how they use the “3C’s” to build effective collaborative teams.
“Through the 3C’s, Liberty Middle School has been able to create a school where learning is the primary focus for all. Students, teachers, office staff, and support staff included all work together to do whatever it takes to ensure high levels of learning for all students,” stated Superintendent Cheryl Hunt in a release to The Leader. “Liberty also uses an instructional coaching model, providing coaching during actual instruction and real-time feedback to teachers in the classroom, which ultimately leads to increased student success.”
