Goalkeeper Anna Covarrubias had at least two important saves that could have been game changers.
Streak Ends
After dropping the season opener to Edison High School, Lemoore’s varsity girls’ soccer team blitzed through the preseason, winning its next eight games in a row, until they ran up against their old nemesis Redwood Tuesday night in Visalia.
While Lemoore’s boys’ contest was postponed due to poor air quality, the girls played and dropped a disappointing 2-1 decision to the Rangers in their West Yosemite League opener.
Lemoore fell to 8-2 on the season and 0-1 in league. The Rangers are 6-5-2 overall and now 2-0 in the WYL.
“It was a tough loss,” said Tiger Coach Janet Brown. “Kelley Mellott got our only goal in the second half. Unfortunately we just couldn’t finish all our chances on goal.”
Brown said Lemoore’s goalie, Anna Covarrubias, came up big, recording save after save and limiting the Rangers to just two goals. She added the Tigers played solid defense and kept the Rangers away from the net most of the night.
