“It was pretty amazing,” she said. “There were whole families that came out from Coalinga to take part in the ride, and I think it was a huge success in getting our students out, and in terms of people from the Fresno and Hanford areas coming to see what a beautiful backyard we have.”

Members from the Kings County and Fresno cycling clubs participated in the event along with Coalinga residents and WHCC athletes. The Fresno Cycling Club was a sponsor along with West Hills College. 

“All the members who came out were really impressed with how organized the ride was and how beautiful our area is,” said Goldsmith. “We are thankful that Al Graves  (WHCC geography faculty member) took a leadership role in the organizing.”

West Hills College is looking to turn this into an annual event, and Goldsmith said that because of the level of interest in the Metric Century, she is already meeting with civic groups and the Coalinga-Huron Recreation and Park District about creating a community cycling chapter.
