Kings Christian's Moesha Davidson wins at the Kiwanis Invitational

Lemoore High School has a long list of athletes who have excelled in track and field, and the school has an impressive display case in its event center chocked full of top-notch athletes who have won Valley and State championships. There just may be another athlete headed to the school’s prestigious Athletic Hall of Fame in the form of Michael Burke, Lemoore's premier high jumper, and based on this year's results from neighboring Kings Christian, the Crusaders just may have to establish its own Hall of Fame thanks to efforts from two of its star athletes.

And if Burke doesn’t win a state title this year, he’ll have his senior year to accomplish the feat. Burke, only a junior, after a solid performance at this past weekend’s Central Section Master’s Championships, held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, earned a trip to the 96th CIF State Track and Field Meet June 6-7, again in Clovis with his second-place finish on Saturday.

Kings Christian’s top athletes also earned trips to the State Meet. Nicholas Hudson earned a trip with an impressive third place finish in the discus. He tossed the discus 178-4. The winning throw was 183-10 by Sierra Pacific’s Eric Loomis. The Crusaders Moesha Davidson turned in an impressive second-place finish in the 100 hurdles, running the course in a sizzling 14.22. She was only beaten by a record-setting section performance from Liberty Bakersfield's Morganne Hill, with her 14.06 clocking.

Both athletes earned spots in the State Meet.

Burke, who won the West Yosemite League championships in the high jump and triple jump at the Visalia league meet on May 9, on Saturday tied Clovis’ Tymon Locklin for best in the high jump at 6-7, but earned second on the fewest misses. Burke won the WYL championship with an impressive 6-10 effort, so many expect him to challenge for the state title.

Burke easily won the WYL triple jump at 44-8 to earn a spot in the Central Section Meet. Burke didn’t place high in the triple jump. The winner was Matt Bowen from Buchanan High School with a leap of 49-1.

Lemoore’s Tyson Pereira finished second in the pole vault at the WYL meet and managed a fourth place finish at the Central Section championships with his vault of 14-2. The winner was Trevor Groom from Clovis West with a 14-8 effort.

The top three finishers from the Central Section earned trips to the State Meet.
