Could there be a historic matchup November 7, 2014 in Lemoore’s Tiger Stadium? Lemoore High School won its sixth game in a row Friday night, beating Hanford West 49-21 in a game that could have been even more lopsided, while a few miles down Highway 198, the Hanford High Bullpups improved their record to 6-0 with a 42-21 drubbing of El Diamante.

Things are definitely sizing up for what could be a match for the ages. The two teams will clash in November in the annual Milk Can Bowl. Furthermore each is ranked high in their respective divisions. Lemoore is gunning for the Division II championship while Hanford leads Division III.

Lemoore will have to get by its next opponent, Golden West, in this Friday’s Homecoming game to continue its march to a Central Section championship, which would be its first since 2005. The Blazers are 1-0 in the West Yosemite League and 3-2 overall. Hanford tackles Redwood Friday night in Visalia.

The Tigers will round out their schedule with an Oct. 17 matchup at Mt. Whitney, and then take on El Diamante at Golden West High School before hosting Hanford on November 7.

In Friday’s game, Lemoore broke open what had been a relatively close contest in the first half. Leading 21-14 with a little less than six minutes left in the first half, Allen Perryman scored on an end-around for a 28-14 advantage.

They weren’t through. With time expiring, Cort Groathouse, who was 14 of 17 for nearly 200 yards, found Reggie Davis from a yard out for a 35-14 halftime advantage.

Tim Johnson opened the scoring in the second half with a 3-yard run for a 42-14 lead and during the opening moments of the final period, Darnell Foster scored on a 3-yard run.
