Kings Lions Club provides much-needed support to Ensenada elementary school
The local service club, one of two Lions Clubs in Lemoore, the Kings Lions just returned from their 53rd Annual Operation Friendship Mission to Ensenada Mexico. “We “adopted” the Felipa Hirales Elementary School this year as our Project site,” said Dr. Jeff Garcia, a local optometrist and member of the local Lions who helped to spearhead this annual visit. “We conducted health screenings on 500 children and 100 parents. We provided eye exams, glasses, blood glucose (diabetes) screening, blood pressure screening, dental hygiene classes and tooth brushes, paste, dental floss and chiropractic adjustments as well. We also provided sporting equipment and school supplies.”
Each year since 1963, members of multiple Lions Clubs of California have made an annual trip to Ensenada, B.C., Mexico, to make a difference in the lives of children and adults. The mission of Lion members is the belief that the most effective way to enhance a community, is to enhance its children. So with that purpose, this visitation is the opportunity to work together under the banner of “We Serve,” as Lion members to extend their hands across the border, from Lions of California to Ensenada, B.C., Mexico, helping people who have humanitarian needs.
Throughout the years, Lions Clubs of California and the Ensenada Lion members have served children and their families in need in the Ensenada area providing many services such as, building new schools; renovating schools in desperate need of improvements; providing desks, books, pencils, and other needed materials; providing dental exams and teeth cleaning; conducting vision screening, providing prescription eyeglasses to those in need; chiropractic screening; and the list goes on.
Lions Clubs International has more than 46,000 clubs and 1.37 million members in more than 200 countries which makes us the world's largest service club organization. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities.
