Hanford’s Lexus Ramirez, and her dreams of Olympic Gold, took a step closer to next year’s Paris Olympics, as the talented boxer, the swift-footed daughter of Yaneth and Alvaro Ramirez, earned a spot in the Olympic qualifiers in Lafayette, Louisiana, in December. A win in Lafayette will just about guarantee her a spot for her on the U.S. Olympic boxing team and a plane ticket to Grand “Paree.” The 18-year-old amateur pugilist will turn 19 later this month. Despite blowing a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter Tuesday night in the Lemoore Event Center, Lemoore’s girls’ basketball team found themselves behind by three points to visiting Tulare Western. However, the Lady Tigers regrouped in the final stanza, tying the game on a shot by Jaelyn Proby, and held on for a 51-48 victory. Lemoore's varsity boys' soccer team improved to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in the West Yosemite League as the fourth-place squad prepares for a contest at Dinuba Friday night (Feb. 3) at 6 p.m. Lemoore's boys defeated visiting Mission Oak on Wednesday night (Feb. 1) 4-1. Lemoore's ladies dropped to 5-2 in the WYL after losing in a disappointing 4-0 loss at Mission Oak Wednesday night.
