Vet's Corner: Sharing your medical VA records with community doctors

Would you like to connect your VA doctors and your community doctors?  The Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) Health program lets your VA health care providers and non-VA health care providers securely share certain parts of your health information.

The VA needs your permission before your health information is shared with your non-VA health care providers, using this secure program.  There are several ways to sign up for this program.  You can sign up using your eBenefits account or your MyHealthyVet account.  You can fill out VA Form 10-0485 and mail it to the VA.  You can also complete the form in person at the Release of Information (ROI) Office at your local VA medical center. If at any time you wish to stop sharing your records, visit your local VA medical center’s ROI Office and ask for a “stop sharing” VA Form 10-0484 or call the toll-free VLER Health Information line at 1-877-771-VLER (8537).

Sharing your health information will help reduce the need for you to carry your records between your health care providers. It also gives your health care providers a better picture of your overall health when they are treating you. Deciding not to participate will not affect your health benefits or your relationship with your doctors.

The Kings County Veterans Service Office issues Veteran I.D. cards to honorably discharged veterans. Contact Joe Wright if you would like to receive periodic veteran’s information by email.    There are many state and federal benefits and programs available to veterans and their dependents.  To find out if you are eligible for any of these benefits, visit or call our office.  We can and will assist you in completing all required application forms.  You can get information on the Web from the Kings County Veterans Service Office webpage at www.countyofkings.com.
