A pediatrician with Valley Children’s Medical Group is caring now for patients at Adventist Health / Community Care in Lemoore. Dr. Ivy Mulinge says she feels a connection with children because growing up, she would get sick a lot and would frequently visit a children’s hospital in Kenya.

“I always got better after visiting the doctor,” she says, “which is why I decided I wanted to become a doctor myself.”

One summer, she volunteered at the hospital, and her passion for healthcare grew even more.

“I love being around children and making them laugh,” she says. “I think they relate to me, too, because I’m just as small as they are,” she jokes.

After living in Kenya for seven years, she and her family moved to Brazil, where she studied general medicine at the Federal University of Sao Paulo-Escola Paulista de Medicina. She moved to the United States in 2012 and completed pediatrics residency training at John H. Stronger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Ill.

Dr. Mulinge is excited to be in the Central Valley.

“I wanted to be somewhere where it’s quiet and I can grow and build relationships in a small community,” she says.

Dr. Mulinge speaks Spanish, Portuguese and Swahili. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading and yoga.

She may be reached at Community Care – Lemoore, 810 E. D St., with a phone number of 559-924-7711. For more information, please visit: www.LemooreCare.com.
