Trio of Adventist Health doctors honored at annual Leadership Symposium
Every year, Adventist Health honors a select few for their commitment to remarkable patient care and to the Adventist Health mission. This year, 18 out of thousands of medical staff physicians, throughout the Adventist Health system, received the honor.
John Zweifler, MD, MPH

Dr. John Zweifler, a board-certified family medicine physician, has 33 years of experience in medical leadership and patient care roles. His current role as Regional Medical Director for the Adventist Health Plan (AHP) does not require him to care for patients in a clinical setting, but he still makes time to tend to patients at Adventist Health / Community Care – Hanford because he enjoys it.
Dr. Zweifler graduated from University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and has a master’s from University of Michigan School of Public Health. He came to Adventist Health / Central Valley Network in 2013 as Chief Medical Officer of about 30 rural health clinics in the San Joaquin Valley. In his new role as Regional Medical Director for AHP, Dr. Zweifler is responsible for developing clinical processes and best practices as the plan expands to adjacent counties.

“My goal is to help Adventist Health become an integrated health care delivery system,” says Dr. Zweifler. “Our network is blessed with all the pieces to provide comprehensive, coordinated services for our many hard-working families in the smaller communities of the Central Valley.”
Mike Shin, MD

Dr. Mike Shin is a board-certified otolaryngologist who’s been treating ear, nose and throat problems within the Adventist Health / Central Valley Network for nine years.
“My goal is to give glory to God through what I do,” says Dr. Shin. “I view my vocation to be an excellent opportunity to serve God’s purpose and calling for my life, which is to heal the sick.”
Dr. Shin also cares for patients at Adventist Health / Community Care – Selma.
He has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and a medical degree from University of Texas in San Antonio. He completed a residency at the University of Oklahoma and is fluent in both English and Korean.
He has a wife and three children. In his free time, he enjoys playing the guitar, flute and piano. He also enjoys running, swimming and tennis.
Marta Atalla, MD

Anyone who knows Dr. Marta Atalla knows she has a passion for pediatrics and a heart for her patients.
The board-certified pediatrician joined Adventist Health / Central Valley Network on October 1, 2015, and quickly made herself known to the community by visiting schools and reading to children.
“I treat my patients like they’re my own children,” says Dr. Atalla. “I want to educate them and give them good quality care, and I am thankful that Adventist Health allows me to do so.”
Dr. Atalla also cares for patients at Adventist Health / Community Care – Reedley Children’s Health in Reedley.
She decided to become a pediatrician after the premature birth of her son. She delivered 26 weeks into pregnancy; her son weighed less than 2 pounds.
Dr. Atalla now has three healthy boys and a husband of nearly 24 years. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, reading and devoting her time to the Combatants for Peace program, which brings children from the Middle East, Israel and Palestine to Europe to teach them about friendship.
