Adventist Health to host 'Paint Downtown Pink' Sept. 28

It’s not yet October, but Adventist Health is giving Thursday Night Market Place visitors a chance to raise breast cancer awareness, early!

On Thursday, Sept. 28, Adventist Health will continue its tradition of hosting Paint Downtown Pink to call attention to breast cancer and the services available at its Breast Care Center. Last year, more than 700 people, many dressed in pink, showed their support.

Similar to previous years, those who visit the Adventist Health booth will receive a pink pedometer and be asked to walk 2,000 steps (about a mile) around the Market Place for breast cancer awareness. Once the steps are completed, participants will receive a free pink tote-bag and plantable seed paper in the shape of a pink bra. When planted, the seed will flourish into a beautiful sunflower. Participants will also be entered into a drawing for larger prizes, including a spa day at Tachi Palace in Lemoore.

There will even be photo opportunities with wacky pink props. Images taken from the photo booth will be posted on the Adventist Health Facebook page the following day.

Not only do community members get involved, but so do vendors. Adventist Health offers prizes to the top three Market Place booths that display pink pride.

“Paint Downtown Pink” will begin at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Adventist Health booth on Irwin Street, between 7th and 8th Streets, in Downtown Hanford.

Staff from the Breast Care Center, second floor of the Hanford Medical Pavilion, 125 Mall Drive in Hanford, will be on hand to answer questions about the center’s services. The Breast Care Center offers breast diagnostics and other care, including genetic screening, digital mammography, ultrasound, bone densitometry and stereotactic breast biopsies. Coming soon, a tomosynthesis machine (3D mammography) which will improve the early detection of breast cancer by giving radiologists 3D-like images of the breasts.
