Sold-out crowd honors Valadao, Avila at annual Jack Stone Salute to Agriculture
They were honored at the 23rd Annual Jack Stone-Kings County Salute to Agriculture Banquet Friday night, Sept. 8. Valadao, a third-term representative, was named the Agriculturist of the Year, while Avila was this year’s Ag Supporter of the Year.
According to Lemoore Chamber officials, the event was sold out, attracting about 350 persons to the popular event. The two were honored by various elected officials and representatives, including receiving a certificate of appreciation from Mayor Ray Madrigal. Councilmembers Eddie Neal and Dave Brown also attended the sold-out event. Attendees dined on lemon-herb chicken and tri-tip catered by Blair Harlan Catering from Riverdale.
Valadao is a native of Kings County and represents California’s agriculturally-rich 21st Congressional District. As a lifelong resident of the Central Valley, he has been active in agriculture and dairy industry groups, as well as many local causes including Children’s Hospital Central California, 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and various Catholic charities.
Intimately involved in the dairy industry, Valadao has taken on leadership roles within the California Milk Advisory Board and the Western States Dairy Trade Association. He was the Regional Leadership Council Chairman for Land O’ Lakes, Inc.
Avila was born into a dairy family and raised her family with an appreciation for agriculture. Employed by the Kings Fair for 30 years she has dedicated much of her life to promoting agriculture in Kings County and did her part to increase awareness and educate Kings County to the benefits of agriculture.
In addition to managing the daily operations of the Kings Fair, Avila works with and often volunteers with local 4-H and FFA chapters in addition to the Kings Junior Fair Board and Fair Foundation.
