Adventist earns high safety grades from watchdog organization

When it comes to patient safety, Adventist Health Selma earns an “A” and Hanford a “B”, according to The Leapfrog Group – a national nonprofit healthcare rating organization.

The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of A, B, C, D and F to hospitals nationwide based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms. Adventist Health Selma was one of 832 awarded an “A” for its commitment to keeping patients safe and meeting the highest safety standards in the United States.

“It really takes an entire team to ensure the safety of our patients,” says Suzette Wheeler, Adventist Health Selma onsite administrator. “We are proud of our ‘A’ and will continue to improve our processes to maintain the safety of our patients during each and every visit.”

Adventist Health Hanford earned a “B” Hospital Safety Grade.

“We have seen tremendous progress in our grade since we began participating in the Leapfrog Survey,” says Andrea Kofl, president of Adventist Health in the Central Valley. “Patient safety is our top priority, and we look forward to continuing our work to provide the best care to our patients because they deserve the very best.”

Adventist Health Reedley did not have enough data to participate in the Leapfrog survey.

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
