To improve the patient experience and expedite care, Adventist Health is expanding a new referral process for imaging services. The Medical Imaging Referral Center formed in May 2016 with the goal of simplifying the process for patients to schedule a referral.

After demonstrating that the service was helpful to patients and providers, Adventist Health expanded it.

The center now is made up of 18 Adventist Health employees in Hanford dedicated to authorizing referrals; obtaining lab results for patients, if needed; reviewing insurance information, and scheduling appointments. Because Adventist Health offers five imaging locations in the Valley, patients can choose the time and place in Hanford, Selma, Reedley, Dinuba or Oakhurst that is most convenient for them.  Imaging services include CT, PET CT, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, mammogram and bone-density exams, among others.

“Our centralized referral center is really about customer service and how we can best serve our patients and communities,” says Betzy Clark, Medical Imaging Referral Center operations manager. “The best part, if a patient asks for a referral at one location, but it might take a week, our staff has the capability to see if there is an earlier availability at another one of our locations in a nearby town.”

Providers within the Adventist Health system and in private offices may view referral results without delay.

For any questions, both providers and patients may call the Medical Imaging Referral Center at 1-800-990-7607.
