Adventist Health honors 80 volunteers that dedicate over 100 hours of service

Sophia Medina, who volunteers at the Birth Center at Adventist Health Hanford, was among the group of volunteers honored for devoting 100 hours to the faith-based organization.

The volunteer with the most service, which is a remarkable 11,500 hours, is Mary Ann Heman-Landis who has selflessly given of her time to Adventist Health for 16 years. She began volunteering at Sacred Heart Hospital in Hanford at the age of 12. Heman-Landis followed the lead of her parents. Her mother, Lillian Heman, was one of the founding members of the original volunteer group at Sacred Heart Hospital in 1955. Her father, Lawrence Heman, served on the Board of Directors at Sacred Heart Hospital for three decades, beginning in the 1950s.

“I love giving back to the community,” says Landis. “I believe in Adventist Health and its mission, which has made my years of service not feel like work at all.”

The volunteers were honored at a luncheon at the Kings Country Club on May 24. The ceremony is a long-time tradition to thank volunteers for all they do for the communities Adventist Health serves across the Central Valley.
