Dr. Ibironke Adelaja, joins staff of Adventist Health. Board certified trained breast surgeon

Adelaja specializes in breast cancer, benign breast disease, breast surgery and women’s health.
She earned a bachelor’s in Microbiology from University of Texas at Austin, which is close to her hometown of Houston. She then earned her medical degree from Texas A&M Health Science Center in College Station, Texas. After medical school, she moved to the Central Valley for residency training at University of California San Francisco at Fresno.
A woman who Dr. Adelaja describes as a second mom, was diagnosed with breast cancer when she began her Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at Rutgers-Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
“She forgot to get a mammogram for a few years and developed aggressive breast cancer,” she says. “Within a month of moving to New Jersey, I was sitting at her bedside in hospice and realized this disease touches everyone.”
Dr. Adelaja was inspired to come back to the Central Valley to make a difference in a rural area and offer compassionate care.
“I treat my patients like my own family,” she says. “My job is to provide them with as much information to help them make their own decisions and offer my support and guidance along the way.”
Dr. Adelaja is married with three boys, ages 20, 4 and 2. In her free time, she enjoys reading, swimming and singing in her church choir. She also plays piano and violin.
