It was a good weekend for BMX racing, a good weekend for hotels, and a good weekend for the Lemoore economy as 3,000 to 5,000 BMX racing enthusiasts and fans showed up for the BMX Fall Nationals held at the Lemoore BMX Raceway Oct. 19-21.
Chairman Derek Weisser, of the non-profit organization Framework Racing Incorporated, said the organization built and sponsors local BMX racing at the Lemoore track off Highway 41 adjacent to the Lemoore Raceway, and the board has been pushing for a national event for some time.
“USA BMX had an open slot for a national (race) this year, and we’ve been asking for a national (event) ever since we started,” said Weisser. “They gave us an opportunity to do it. We worked really hard, did a lot of fundraisers, got some big sponsorships from the Tachi Casino, and we were able to put together a nice track.”
Weisser said the riders loved the track and they loved the area. “Not every track gets the opportunity to host that, because you have to have a lot of room in order to accommodate.”
Weisser said hotel rooms from Harris Ranch to Visalia were full.
The track is usually open on Mondays for local BMX enthusiasts to enjoy. “We have weekly races on Monday nights with signups from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
