It was a celebration of sorts for the Lemoore Rotary Club. This year the local Rotarians celebrated the club's 60 anniversary. Lemoore Rotary was founded in 1958, and what better way to celebrate a birthday than inviting several hundred of your friends to its 38th annual Crab Feed. While no official records as to size crowds exist, Saturday night's "crab fest" had to be one of the most substantial dinners in the annuls of Lemoore dinners.
Several hundred crab enthusiasts filled the Cinnamon Recreation Complex and enjoyed all the crab they could eat - salad, bread, tri-tip and beans included at $60 a pop. Shoppers also perused a silent auction and enjoyed a full-throated live auction while mopping up the remnants of crab on their plates.
The Lemoore Rotary Club prides itself on its devotion to the community and international service, a hallmark of Rotary Internationa. Over the years, Lemoore Rotary has helped to develop parks, provided books and dictionaries to local schools, sponsored Neighborhood Watch, traveled to far-away places to dig wells for clean water, and more than uphold the club's motto: "Service Above Self." The club currently meets at noon every Tuesday at Terri's Front Street Grill.
