A Kings County Sheriff’s Office patrol aircraft, known as Sky King 1, on Wednesday, April 17, experienced sudden engine failure and was forced to make an emergency landing at the J.G.

Boswell airstrip located in the City of Corcoran.

It was at about 8:35 p.m. that the aircraft while patrolling over Corcoran lost power. A Kings Sheriff's Office pilot and a Kings County Sheriff's Sergeant (Tactical Flight Officer) were on board.

The plane was flying near State Route 43 and Oregon Ave. at an elevation of 1,200 feet when it suddenly experienced sudden engine failure, causing the loss of power.

The pilot radioed the Naval Air Station Control Tower and declared an emergency. The flight officer radioed Kings County Dispatch and advised they were experiencing engine failure and were going to attempt an emergency landing at Boswell’s airstrip located in the City of Corcoran along Highway 43.

The pilot was able to land the aircraft safely, and both the pilot and TFO walked away with no injuries.

The engine’s malfunction is under investigation.
