Saturday’s event was a sort of summertime “meet and greet” your local firefighters, and according to Lemoore Volunteer Fire Department Chief, Bruce German, about 75 to 80 neighbors in the Paradise Loop neighborhood (by the golf course) joined in the fun.
According to German, Saturday's event - not the first not the last - was meant to introduce themselves (volunteers) to the public. In this case, many of the local firefighters lived in the neighborhood.
German told The Leader that while a date hasn’t been set, the department hopes to do another “block party” in August.
It was indeed a perfect day to have the fire truck there, and the hoses turned on as kids (maybe a few adults) enjoyed the cool water falling on them from the department’s main truck.
“We put the ladder truck up,” said German. “We barbecued hot dogs and got the neighborhood to come out, and we introduced ourselves. And they introduced themselves to us. We had a good time for two or three hours. At one point we had 75 to 80 people there.”
German said the fire department hopes the event becomes an annual tradition and will most likely occur during the summer months. They will most likely visit different neighborhoods throughout the city, particularly where firefighters live.
“People may not realize that their neighbor is a volunteer fireman,” said German. “We’re trying to work in another one for August.”
German said that 10 or 11 volunteers helped out Saturday.
