A Lemoore High senior and the school’s NJROTC student commanding officer, Brianne Lopez, picked up a prestigious award recently. On Jan. 21, the talented student accepted the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Award in a special presentation held at Visalia’s Lamp Liter Inn.

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.  The award, presented to Lopez, recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities.

Students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.  Lopez’s award citation reads as follows:

“Brianne is a Lemoore High School senior and is our current unit's commanding officer.  As a four-year member of Lemoore High School's NJROTC unit, Cadet Lopez has promoted in rank from cadet seaman recruit to her present rank of cadet commander.  Lopez is completely motivated and focused on self-improvement. Lopez plans to attend California State University, Monterey Bay after graduating from High School in May 2020.”

According to her instructor, Lt. Cmdr. John Wolstenholme, Cadet Lopez is one of the most valuable members of Lemoore's nationally ranked NJROTC unit, and one of its busiest. The active senior participates in several athletic and community service events every year.  Brianne is also an active participant in numerous organizations and serves on the unit’s drill teams, physical fitness teams, the academic team, honor guard, and the unit’s color guard.

In her “spare” time she is a teacher’s assistant.  “Brianne's steadfast devotion in her every endeavor is one of the reasons Lemoore High School's NJROTC unit has been so successful,” said Wolstenholme.

“Cadet Lopez's sustained superior performance has clearly set her apart from her peers, and her professional abilities are precisely what are needed to succeed,” continued Wolstenholme.  “Brianne's exemplary military bearing and command presence make her ideally suited for awarding of the Daughters of the American Revolution Medal.”
