Members of the Lemoore Police Department and a few friends, on Monday, Nov. 2, honored one of their own – Officer Jonathan Diaz – with a marathon run, a 26.9-mile effort that began in Huron and ended at the Lemoore Police Department about noon.

Officer Diaz, a young, hard-working Lemoore police officer, was tragically killed on November 2, 2019, when he intervened in a felony domestic violence incident. Lemoore police officers have struggled to get through the last year without Diaz, but they wanted to come together in a show of support for the heroic officer and his family.

And on Monday, Nov. 2, approximately 13 LPD participants took up the challenge, running, jogging, walking from the City of Huron to the City of Lemoore. The starting line in Huron was picked because Officer Diaz began his law enforcement career with the Huron Police Department.

Some officers formed teams, electing to run the route in a relay, making the distance a little more manageable.  A pair of officers are splitting the course, each running a half marathon. Lemoore’s police chief, Michael Kendall, ran the entire course by himself.

It took the large contingent about 5.5 to 6.5 hours to complete the course.
