Lemoore youngsters enjoy annual Recreation Department Easter Egg Extravaganza in Lemoore Lions Park
The annual Easter extravaganza is a joint effort by the Recreation Department, the Lemoore Lions’ Club and South Valley Community Church. In all, there may have been over 2,000 persons in the park Saturday as parents watched their kids search for the hidden prizes on the grounds of the park.
Joining in the effort was Lemoore’s Best Buy Market which donated 1,000 hot dogs to the annual party in the park.
“We couldn’t do this without our community partners,” said Recreation Specialist Sheila Taylor. “The Lemoore Lions Club has been doing this for numerous years. Three years ago South Valley Community Church decided they wanted to get involved. Three years ago they gave us 10,000 eggs and the last two years that has been over 20,000 eggs. There is plenty here for every little child in the community. We make sure they all go home happy.”
Judging by the faces of the kids, they enjoyed it as well. There were one or two teary-eyed faces who may not have collected as many eggs as he or she would have liked.
“It’s just a wonderful site to see 1,000 children at one site having just a wonderful time, and that’s how we feel recreation should be,” said Taylor. “And we couldn’t do it without our partners.”
Taylor said Navy volunteers helped out as did local Lemoore youth groups and plain old volunteers who contacted the Recreation Department asking if they could help. There were almost 50 volunteers who turned out Saturday morning to spread over 21,000 eggs over the expanse of the park.
“It’s just a wonderful, wonderful once a year event where so many community members are in the same place and we’re fortunate to have such support.”
The children did in fact pick the fields clean in just a matter of minutes. “I think they found everything. As you can see there is nothing left,” Taylor Laughed.
