Kings Lions pick up shovels in effort to help seniors with Senior Center
According to project coordinator Joe Arruda, the club has budgeted $2,700 in an effort to help rehabilitate the Senior Center, which has experienced some financial difficulties the last couple of years. Arruda and other Lions members were busy on Sunday morning building a fire pit, improving the landscaping and installing overhead fans beneath an outdoor arbor.
“This is just giving back and focusing on the senior citizens,” said Arruda while taking a short break from digging a fire pit. “We’re doing a service project for the senior citizens so they can begin renting out the back area to help them out in the future.”
Arruda said that in addition to the Lions’ Club donation, they’ve received donations of materials and supplies from various persons and businesses. “We did sponsor letters and we’ve had West Valley Irrigation sponsored us with all the irrigation pieces and we’re working on some other places like Orchard Supply, Home Depot, and Lowes.”
Arruda said the Lions knew the seniors needed help. “We asked them if we could help them out and we went to the board and their board was more than welcome to bring us in and do the work.”
The Lions hope to have the back yard project completed by September 6. They would like to hold their annual Lions Club Luau there.
