The Lemoore Lions Club welcomed nearly 1,400 beer lovers to its annual Lemoore Brewfest, held Saturday at Lemoore’s Lions Park. Club officials expected to raise nearly $40,000 from the event. Much of the money raised will go to local charities and organizations.
There was plenty of beer and food to go around Saturday as rock and roll music blared in the background. Lions Club President Greg Martella was more than pleased with the turnout. “This is a great program. We have a lot of vendors come up here, and we usually try to keep it down to around 1,300 or 1,400 people,” said Martella. “We sell out every year and we’ve been doing this for six years. The Lemoore Lions organization has been in the community for 65 years so this is really nice to see this kind of turnout.”
A number of donations were handed out Saturday night, including checks to the Memorial Aviator’s organization, the Lemoore Senior Center, and the Lemoore Recreation Department.
The Lemoore Lions work on a number of activities with the Lemoore Recreation Department. “All of that stuff is community service oriented. It all goes right back into the community to help some of the kids whose families aren’t able to afford some of the summer programs,” Martella said.
It takes a lot of work to organize this kind of event, said Martella. He said his members may breathe a sigh of relief once this year’s event is over, but come the next meeting, planning begins for next year’s event.
